I have heard so many great things about salt lamps, but I had never had the chance to try one out until recently. I was able to review the Himalayan Salt Lamp from GG's Store on Amazon. When the box arrived, it was much heavier than I anticipated. My family was saying "It IS a rock!". Ok, yeah. I knew that. However, it was still 6 pounds and heavy for the size. It was also very cold when it arrived, so when I unpacked it in the warm house it immediately started to attract moisture. I quickly plugged it in, and shortly after the salt lamp was dry.
I am in love with the flame look of this lamp. It is beautiful. It is not the average "salt lump" with the different nooks and crannies. This lamp is smooth. It has the occasional chip that you can see, but not feel, from the making of the lamp. However, it is built very solid.
This is a very wonderful Moroccan Salt Lamp. It is from pink Himalayan salt, and looks very beautiful both when it's turned on or off. It is securely screwed on a black metal stand. I love this aspect, as I don't have to find something to put it on, and it provides a stable base as well as a nice decorative touch. You can see more about the actual lamp with my video.
Why use a salt lamp?
Pink Himalayan Salt lamps clean and deodorize the air using the power of hygroscopy. What is hygroscopy? It is where the salt lamp attracts and absorbs surrounding water molecules, including the impurities attached to those particles. The heat from the light then causes the impurities to stick to the salt, while evaporating the cleaned water molecules and helpful negative ions back into the air.
This produces clean air, reduced allergens which can help with coughs and asthma.
It is possible to increase energy levels, reduce stress, help with SAD (seasonal depression), provide better sleep with the negative ions.
It is theorized that it helps to counteract some of the EM (electromagnetic radiation) from all the electronics (tv, appliances, computers, smart phones, etc...) that surround us on a daily basis. These EM cause chronic fatigue, increases stress levels, and decreases the body’s immune response.
Overall, I am thrilled to have this in my house. So far I have noticed an increase in energy. I recently stopped drinking coffee, and yet my energy has been doubled. I feel more like getting up and doing things again. I have also noticed my air is less stale. It is cold, and we can't open the windows, but the air in the house feels better and has no odor in the room I have this in. I do keep the light on 24 hours a day, but turn it down low at night. It's not only a beautiful looking piece of art, but it is a huge blessing for our family's health.
The big question is, what are Negative Ions? Some information I found on Critical Cactus shows this...
